I was checking my Yahoo mail this morning and, as a former journalism student, I always browse the headlines on the Yahoo home page. Just like a bad car accident, I couldn’t look away from a featured story called “Week of Monster Madness: Two mythical creatures light up the Web.” Now, I have to put in a small disclaimer here: I totally believe there are things on this earth that can not be explained. It’s a great, big, wonderful world out there and I think it’s arrogant and moronic to think that any of us know everything about it. And I certainly hope that even after being around for gadzillions of years, that the sphere we live on still has some mystery to it. I also have to admit something really geeky about me…I totally believe in ghosts. I say this because I’ve had my own personal paranormal experiences. I guess that’s fodder for a later post and I’m not ready to open that can of worms just yet. However, despite my belief in things that go bump in the night…there are some things that I just can’t accept. One of those is Bigfoot, Yeti, Saquatch, and all his aliases. I guess it’s not that I don’t believe there might be a big, old, hairy gorilla living in the great outdoors. It’s just that I don’t think the pictures people bring back from the woods are credible evidence that this guy exists. Since the 1600’s we’ve pretty much scavenged the Americas and if there was a Yeti out there somewhere, then I’m pretty sure I would’ve seen it at a Ripley’s Believe it or Not museum somewhere. I think if we can recover bodies of 40 foot long giant squid from the depths of the Atlantic Ocean, then some rogue camper would’ve at least stumbled upon Sasquatch bones by now. But the monster chasers just keep coming back with these doctored photos that I just can’t seem to reconcile. Here are the photos released this week by some doodz deep in the Georgia woods. I’m sorry peeps, but this just looks like another hoax to me. If I’m wrong I’ll eat my words, I promise. But I was more impressed by the gorilla suit my friend/co-worker wore for Halloween a few years ago, when he chased another co-worker around who dressed as a banana. Now that was entertaining.

After realizing this morning that my yogurt was expired (boooooo!), I made a stop at the vending machine at work (vending machine = devil). As I was pondering my unhealthy choices, I noticed the Hostess snack cakes in Row C. “Ho Ho’s” “Ding Dongs” I thought to myself…”Sheesh self, these are some offensive snack cakes!” All these names have sexual undertones. I wonder if anyone at Hostess even realizes this? I mean, if Santa can’t say “ho ho ho” in Australia anymore, how can we still have these snack cakes? Where does it stop? Are they going to start calling cupcakes “Ta Ta’s”? They do come in packages of two. I think I should write the company.

Some random thoughts and events from the last couple of days…

• I absolutely ADORE my friends. They are the best.
• I won $4 at Turfway Park last night. Not bad considering I only bet $1.
• I bet on horses based on their name.
• $1 beers are good, even if it’s crappy beer.
• Margaritas, particularly good ones, are the bomb.
• The Office and 30 Rock are absolutely hilarious. If you don’t watch them, you should start.
• I gave dollar tips to drag queens doing a charity show at a “country/western” gay bar. A country/western gay bar is a difficult concept to comprehend, unless you’re actually there. There was a big poster of Reba McIntire holding a bag of Fritos. That was pretty funny. But it would’ve been even funnier if she was eating them.
• Some of the drag queens had nicer legs than me. There’s something just not fair about that.
• I drove to work on a Saturday in 3″ of snow and freezing rain. When I was about halfway here, I decided that I might be retarded for doing so. But I was already halfway and I could use the extra cash. I got to work and there was an equally retarded co-worker here as well. He told me he did a “180″ on his way here. I’m thinking he is way more retarded than I am.
• Pumpkin donuts are yummy…especially when paired with a caramel latte.
• I like snow, but freezing rain and ice are not my friends.
• I still haven’t finished my Christmas shopping. I really need to get crack-a-lackin on that.
• The copier at work sounds like a helicopter. I’m convinced that one day it’s going take off and fly far, far away to “copier heaven.”
• I wish I could sleep past 9am.

stop…right there…yes, you…slow down for a moment and ponder how lucky you are. how fortunate we are to be living in the united states. freedom to live where we want, wear what we want, eat what we want (and plenty of it), take a shower when we want. there are people in this world who have nothing…nothing. i can’t even comprehend it. i can’t imagine not eating for several days at a time…not having clean water to drink… most of the time i can’t imagine not having my cell phone or debit card! but i realize how lucky i am. not only do i have plenty of “junk” as my boyfriend would say, i have awesome friends and a wonderful family. oh, and the boyfriend…he’s pretty amazing too. i’m just so thankful for it all. indescribably thankful. so about once a week…sometimes more often…i sit down and take stock of the things in my life that i most appreciate. it only takes a few minutes…i usually think about it during my morning commute. i highly recommend it.

so… i have to tell you that i am technologically inept. i don’t have cable, i have a tv that doesn’t work, and another brand new tv that’s still in the box. my wonderful parents surprised me with a new flat screen for christmas that i haven’t even watched yet. i have a razr phone that i only purchased because it was small and looked cool. i was one of the first of my friends to get one (such a trendsetter, i am). my boyfriend, however, refuses to accept this. he’s set me up with a t-mobile hot spot account, a “windows mobile” phone, an ipod, and now yours truly has her own blog site. i am slowly, but surely, turning into a geek. but it’s all good in the hood. he’s a really cute geek…and the best boyfriend i’ve had in a long very time, maybe ever…i think i’ll keep him.
