My healthy lunch…

lunch

I think they just kind of cancel each other out. 😉

A simple request… February 1, 2008

Please don’t bring stinky food to work. I’m sure you’re dinner last night was fantasmically delicious, but I don’t want to smell next day garlic all afternoon. Or mustard for that matter. I absolutely loathe mustard and I can smell it’s vile odor from miles away. Vicious devil condiment! There’s a reason mustard gas is used as a chemical warfare!

Let me set the stage for you… I work in a small corporate office with about 25 other people. About 12 of us sit in one large main area, and in cubicles no less. So if someone brings in vittles from last night, we all have to smell their malodrous lunch. Today it was garlic. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of garlic. Just not in vampire-slayer proportions. Honestly, it was enough to turn my stomach.

I’m not asking for a lot here… just in leiu of your yucky smelling lunch… try bringing in something that doesn’t make me want to plug my nose. Thanks.

Dating is for fools! January 30, 2008

I found out today that I did not get the job at CCHMC. It’s okay… I think I had already made peace with it, no matter the outcome. And I have a Plan B, which I have begun brainstorming. I’ll blog more about this later. But for now I guess I just need a funny. About three years ago I moved into my latest slum shack apartment and at about the same time started a new checking account after being convinced that the corporate five headed monster bank I was using were Nazis not very nice. (In my defense, the bank’s logo is red and black.) After creating my new account, I was caught a little off guard when my account rep asked me out to dinner. My only excuse was that I was in a public place and was too stupid dumbfounded to say no. (Well dressed, but not so cute, not even in a Monet sort of way.) He called a few days later and I tried to cancel, but he didn’t take the hint and just rescheduled. So a week later, we were off to PF Changs. I love their food and decided I could tolerate a couple of hours with an ugly boy in exchange for a free dinner. In the midst of our appetizer I could tell that something had caught his eye. A few minutes later, he excused himself and went to say hello to another table… rude. He came back and picked up our conversation where we’d left off… mildly impressive. And then just a few syllables later, a young woman appears at our table, impolitely introduces herself and tells me in her most catty tone that it’s very nice to meet me. Ouch, you don’t have to bite. I tell her in my most sunshiney voice that it is nice to meet her too. His ugliness, looking a bit like a kicked puppy, excuses himself again and walks her outside. I would guess that he was out there for a good 20 minutes. My waiter (who was cute!) brought the meal and checked on me a second time. Not one to spoil a good meal on someone else’s drama, I happily dined alone and invited him (the waiter) to join me. My “date” eventually did come back and when I asked if everything was alright, simply responded yes. No other explanation was offered. Check please… Taxi!

After realizing this morning that my yogurt was expired (boooooo!), I made a stop at the vending machine at work (vending machine = devil). As I was pondering my unhealthy choices, I noticed the Hostess snack cakes in Row C. “Ho Ho’s” “Ding Dongs” I thought to myself…”Sheesh self, these are some offensive snack cakes!” All these names have sexual undertones. I wonder if anyone at Hostess even realizes this? I mean, if Santa can’t say “ho ho ho” in Australia anymore, how can we still have these snack cakes? Where does it stop? Are they going to start calling cupcakes “Ta Ta’s”? They do come in packages of two. I think I should write the company.

Ding Dongs

ps: Obviously, I am wicked bored today! 😉

Crossroads TFD!!! November 27, 2007

Two weekends ago I had the opportunity to volunteer at Crossroads Thanksgiving Food Drive. I truly enjoy volunteering and feel such a rush knowing that I’m part of something bigger than myself and the compartmentalized little world I live in. It reminds me that no matter what’s going on in my life that I am truly blessed. It’s actually really humbling and in a good way. I’ve never gone a Thanksgiving or Christmas without food on my table, gifts to unwrap, and my friends or family around me. I can’t even imagine the alternative. And that’s one reason I try to put myself out there during the holidays, trying to make even one person’s holiday a little happier. Sometimes I get so disgruntled with shopping, budgeting, and dealing with people who seem to just act wretched during this time of year. So these opportunities to serve others bring me back to the reason why I like the holidays. This Thanksgiving, Crossroads Thanksgiving Food Drive delivered 5000 boxes to other churches and charities in Cincinnati, as well as to folks in Mamelodi, South Africa… that’s about 66,000 meals. AMAZING! In the words of the Grinch, it makes my heart grow three times it size to know that I was a small part of that. Here’s a clip from WLWT News 5…check it out. And here are a few snapshots I took…   tfd-1.jpgtfd-2.jpgtfd-5.jpgtfd-6.jpgtfd-11.jpg
